Local 104 and Belimo Partner for Advanced Life Safety Training

On February 24–25, 2026, the Northern California Valley Sheet Metal Industry JATC partnered with Belimo to host technicians, contractors, and project managers for an interactive three-hour training focused on life safety dampers.

This expert-led session covered damper types, applications, features and benefits, code requirements, testing procedures, and retrofit tools. While hosted by Belimo, the training was not a sales presentation. Instead, it provided technical education applicable to multiple fire and smoke damper actuator manufacturers and evolving technologies across the industry.

Project managers and contractors gained valuable knowledge to help ensure code compliance, reduce maintenance costs, and improve life safety system reliability.

Following a classroom presentation by Mark Armon, Belimo Product Manager for Fire and Smoke, participants moved into the HVAC service shop for hands-on instruction. Mark, alongside Service and TAB Instructor Roger Kaine, worked directly with HVAC technicians, journeypeople, and apprentices on damper installation, remote testing, wiring, and system capabilities.

As the industry continues to evolve, Sheet Metal Workers remain committed to expanding their knowledge and immediately applying new skills in the field. Local 104 and Belimo look forward to strengthening their partnership to ensure life safety equipment functions as designed and continues to improve the built environments of the communities we serve.
